Belfast Sinks

Some interesting facts about Belfast sinks. They are so named because the Belfast authorities insisted on having a cast in overflow, called a weir overflow which  acts just as a weir does in a river or stream. London authorities on the other hand wanted a sink without an overflow. These are sometimes called Butlers sinks and tend to be shallower. Early sinks were carved from stone and served many functions from cleaning game , hence the name game sinks, to cleaning boots in the boot room to washing dishes and pots and pans in the scullery. A very versatile product made in exactly the same material and with the same methods as a century ago.
